2008 Inventors Hall of Fame Inductees

Last week, Jon Dudas, Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the USPTO and officials of the National Inventors Hall of Fame (NIHF) announced the sixteen inductees of the 2008 Inventors Hall of Fame. The inventors will be formally inducted into the Hall of Fame on May 3rd in Akron, Ohio. The seven living inductees include:
- Ruth Benerito – wrinkle-free cotton
- Amar Bose — improvements in audio technology
- Nick Holonyak, Jr. — light emitting diode
- Erna Hoover — computerized telephone switching
- Amos Joel, Jr. — switching concept for cellular phones
- William Murphy, Jr. — variety of medical devices including the blood bag and disposable medical trays
- Kenneth Richardson — anti-fungal drug, Fluconazole
Posthumous Recognition:
- Robert Adler – Television remote control
- John Charnley – Hip replacement surgery
- Willem Einthoven – Electrocardiograph
- Calvin Fuller, Gerald Pearson, Daryl Chapin – Silicon Solar Cell
- Clarence “Kelly” Johnson – Aircraft
- Ray McIntire – Styrofoam(R) brand foam
- Malcom McLean – Containerized shipping
- Harold McMaster – Tempered glass
- David Pall — Filtration technology
