Stents are tiny scaffolds used to prop open arteries clogged by heart disease. Sales of drug-coated stents - the most profitable kind, which are coated with drugs to prevent reclogging - have waned in recent quarters amid fears that they were leading to blood clots, and a study questioned their need in certain patients. But recent studies have cast coated stents in a more favorable light, potentially easing safety worries and giving way to hopes that the market was starting to improve.
