Way to go, eBay!

At the end of an eBay auction transaction, the seller and buyer are able to rate each other by leaving “Feedback,” a short comment and a positive, negative, or netural rating. These ratings are used to calculate each user’s Feedback Score:

Members earn different colored stars as the Feedback Score increases: 10 for a yellow star, up to 100,000 for a red star (I have a blue star). According to eBay, “Your star is your symbol of trust and experience in the eBay Community. ”

Beginning in May, eBay sellers will no longer be able to leave negative feedback for buyers, a decision infuriating many sellers. I, on the other hand, applaud eBay for this attempt to balance the bargaining power between online buyers and sellers. Countless times I have wanted to leave a negative rating for a seller, but, fearing a retaliatory negative feedback (heaven forbid someone tarnish my 100% positive Feedback record), I did nothing. Under a system like this, fraud and poor business practices flourish.

Keep up the good work, eBay!
