ROFLCon 2008
Posted by Keeley Vega at 3:13 pm under Events, Internet.
On April 25th and 26th, Harvard University is hosting ROFLCon 2008, a conference on fame and memehood on the Internet. (A meme is “a neologism used to describe a catchphrase or concept that spreads in a faddish way from person to person via the Internet.”)
“Celebs will come together with scholars of internet culture and moguls building new businesses from the cultural fabric of the net. And then they’re going to talk about it: internet culture. What makes it work, why it works, how it works. They’re going to talk about where internet culture has been and where they think it’s going.”

This is the MTV Awards of the Internet and guarantees to be a fantastic event full of meme-sightings, great conversation, and maybe even some ROFL-ing.

For the Internet challenged, ROFL stands for “roll[ing] on the floor laughing.” It can be used as a verb: “You make me rofl,” or “That dude left me rofling.”
